How Chilled Water Coils Work ?

Chilled water coils also known as hydronic cooling coils are typically used to cool or remove moisture from air streams. The air to be cooled moves through the fins, and either water or an ethylene or propylene glycol solution move through the tubes. This is a type of heat exchanger mostly used in commercial and industrial air handler units. A simple form of water coils have been around for centuries. The first “modern” heat exchanger using water was invented by William Blakely in 1796. However Water Tube boilers date back almost 2,000 years. More commonly used cooling in the world today are refrigerant systems.

The role of the Chiller Coils:

Located inside the blower compartment or air handler, the Chiller Coils holds the chilled refrigerant that the compressor moves into it. As the air from the blower fan moves over the coil, the cold refrigerant removes the heat from your home’s air. The refrigerant becomes warmer and travels to the condenser coil outdoors. With a heat pump, the process reverses in the winter and the Chiller Coils expels heat from the refrigerant into your home, instead of absorbing it and taking it outdoors. Most heat pumps have auxiliary heating elements that are part of the Chiller Coils components to supply heat when temperatures fall below a certain point.

Katariyaa produces a large variety of Chiller Coils for all segments of the HVAC & R industry. We specialise in detailed custom design to meet the exact end-use requirements.
